Basketball shorts are one of my favorite pieces to wear all year round: comfortable for all day wear, functional for layering, and, in my personal opinion, easy to dress up and down. If the weather doesn’t yet call for exposed calves, throw them over a pair of tights or atop knee high boots for practical use. Adding a rugby shirt and worn in sneakers perfectly plays into the athletic theme while still staying fashionable.
The Victorian Era bloomers are definitely still trending at the moment, and this look adds a good amount of modern edge. Personal style shines through the trend by wearing a relaxed t-shirt as a slouchy hood, complimented by an equally baggy oversized leather jacket. The chunky boho belt and black leather western boots with white contrast stitching add additional layers of current trends that I’m not mad at.
A monochromatic look should always be paired with thoughtful texture and layers — adding pops of contrast is welcome and appreciated. These classic, fitted capris pair well with it’s loose, ruffled tunic counterpart, and the sheer ankle socks bring a lightness to the otherwise heavily draped look. The skinny neck tie and ballet flats are perfect additions to the downtown chic ensemble.
Every girl loves a midi skirt – solid, printed, sheer, knit – they’re ideal for every season. This specific pattern in shades of brown and pink makes for a seamless transition from winter hues to spring florals. A milk chocolate bomber and leather boots pick from varying browns in the skirt and make this a cohesive and well styled look.
I firmly believe that lingerie is appropriate for every day wear and can be styled at any point throughout the year. This sheer black midi dress is made for colder days when layered over a fitted turtle neck and leather boots that hit right below the knee. A skinny black belt adds definition the look that’s finished off with a staple trench.
Capri joggers are multi functional and multi seasonal, as very clearly seen here with this leg warmer and pointed toe heel pairing. This is a look that our viewers would likely call temperature confusing, something they love to get upset over, but I happen to think it screams NYC cool girl. The oversized crewneck keeps it casual, and the large leather bag proves that she’s busy and quite frankly doesn’t care for your opinion.
An NYC winter styling tip – include layers that double as an accessory when not in use. Wearing an above the knee midi skirt with a v-neck blouse in February might seem like a risky move, but tying an additional sweatshirt around your waist shows that you at least came prepared. A thick ankle length coat and crew socks ensure that only a couple of inches are outside of your exposure control.
